Like a Phoenix: McBlaine & Associates, Inc. filed for bankruptcy; Get Into the Act, Inc. is now in McBlaine's offices and is in possession of McBlaine's talent files. Russ Stewart is the registered agent for Get Into the Act and is also listed as the Attorney for Debtors on McBlaine's Bankruptcy document (from PerformInk).

PerformInk is running their Season Survey on-line now; theatres can submit information about themselves and about the shows they are producing this season (the survey runs through September 1). I imagine PerformInk will use the results for both the paper and their The Book: An Actor's Guide to Chicago.

Zagat Theatre Survey Implications- among other interesting tid bits:
In response to the question "Where do you usually purchase theatre tickets?," the survey found that a plurality of theatregoers - 34% - buy their tickets on the Internet, while 21% obtain them at the box office and 19% purchase them at a TKTS discount ticket booth. The implications for advertisers are enormous - not simply in where they advertise, but also how
...survey participants see on average 15 shows a year, which is more than most theatregoers
(from Backstage.com). TKTS is comparable to Chicago's HotTix.

SAG and AFTRA Talking Merger?
Rumors have begun to circulate that Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) may try to merge again (from Backstage.com).

Beyond the substantive issues of making sure a unified entity is good for members, the merger supporters might tip the vote in their favor by way of image.

Last time merger was proposed, the new union was to be called "Alliance of International Media Artists" (AIMA). I suggest a different acronym for the new entity:"STAR" where STAR stands for Screen, Television And Radio. "STAR Actors" or "STAR Union"is descriptive and mildly catchy.

"AIMA" is a bit broader in scope, but the voting members might be less eager to be referred to as "AIMA" actors than to be called "STAR" Actors. The new name is just about the least important functional issue of a merger, but might get the merger more votes. Just a random thought.

A monologue group is in the beginning stages of formation. It is for actors to assist one another in finding and refining monologues:
Anyone who is interested (and available) should come to Four Moon on Monday, September 13th at 7pm for an initial meeting

A Clockwork Orange will be Defiant Theatre's last show; the theatre company is disbanding (this is their eleventh season ).
From the Sun-Times:
Defiant Theatre, which for the past 11 years has been an outpost of the over-the-top, the avant-garde and, in the terminology of the art world, "the transgressive," will soon disband.
From PerformInk:
After 11 years and 32 productions, the company is doing one more show (A Clockwork Orange at the Storefront in September) and having a wake. Since 1999, most of the original Defiant members have either left the company or left town. In the last two years, the exodus has accelerated.
