League of Chicago Theatres Ends Publication of Chicago Plays in August

As of August, theatergoers at about three dozen Chicago area venues will notice a difference in their program books.
That's because the League of Chicago Theatres, the advocacy organization for approximately 190 local venues, is about to cease publication of Chicago Plays.
This program, which came into being in September 2002, was designed to help fill the void when another publication, the once widely circulated Stagebill, suddenly closed up shop. But the League project failed to generate the necessary advertising revenue. And according to Dennis Culloton, a member of the League's board, a debt of about $400,000 is now owed to west suburban printing company Kelvyn Press
(from Chicago Sun-Times).
