Bailiwick Not Closing, Entirely
Responding to rumors that Bailiwick Repertory, 1229 W. Belmont, was closing and that he had left town, founder and artistic director David Zak said that neither was true.
(from Windy City Times).
According to Zak, Jeremy Wechsler and Theatre Wit will take over the Bailiwick space at 1229 W. Belmont in the New Year.
I am very excited about the prospect of moving our programming into another more manageable venue,Zak continued. We are planning for Pride 2009 for summer, and have plans for other events elsewhere while we continue to search for a permanent space

Zak also said that the Bailiwick Repertory Theatre, if not the arts center, will continue to exist, perhaps producing its long-running Pride Series at the Center on Halsted St.
I am ready for something better,Zak said

comments: I was referring to the building itself being closed, but I have also heard the plans to continue production--possibly in a rented space, possibly in a new permanent one. I hope that something comes of it, and that not having to pay for and maintain a building helps them to avoid financial and management problems they have had previously. I'm excited to see the updates.
